2025 EDITION ━ 28 - 30.11
The Festival opens on Friday, November 28, with a concert dedicated to the music of Lin Korobkova, composer and Berlin-based performer who, defining themself as a text manufacturer, interprets art as an instrument of analysis:
“Following the testament of Susan Sontag, I emphasize art as an instrument of analysis - linking artistic exploration with theory,” they declare.
The program features flashbacks to perform for solo piano, performed by Dolores Privitera, a work that explores the intimate bond between musician and instrument, drawing from the composer’s bodily memories of pianistic childhood.
This is followed by a new site-specific piece, created during the artist’s residency in Pinerolo, entrusted to the Quartetto Maurice.
The evening concludes with tape my head and mike my brain, stick that needle in my vain, for two performers and turntables, performed by Anna Piroli and Erika Sofia Sollo, a work reflecting on the loneliness of human interactions mediated by technological devices.
Saturday, November 29, the acousmatic concert performed by Carlo Laurenzi, Computer Music Designer at IRCAM, Paris, opens with Djungle Walk and Travel from the album On Air by Christina Kubisch, pioneer of sound art and creator of the renowned Electrical Walks, dedicated to the perception of electromagnetic sounds in urban networks.
A follow-up celebrates the centenary of the birth of Luciano Berio with Thema (Omaggio a Joyce), one of his most appreciated works on the relationship between word and music, enriched by the voice of Cathy Berberian, and two masterpieces of musique concrète: Cinq études de bruits by Pierre Schaeffer and Capture éphémère by Bernard Parmegiani, protagonists of 20th-century electroacoustic research.
The evening concludes with Lolina, Estonian musician active in the electronic and digital music scene, known for her experimental spirit and for her earlier projects under the name Inga Copeland, member of the band Hype Williams, collaborating with Dean Blunt on music, video, and performance projects. For Musica in Prossimità she will include a sofa, computer, effects pedals, bass guitar and microphone.
The day of Sunday, November 30 hosts the concert of airborne extended, an Austrian ensemble distinguished by its unusual formation (flutes – Elena Gabbrielli, harpsichord/keyboard – Sonja Leipold, recorders/Paetzold – Caroline Mayrhofer, and harp – Tina Žerdin), for which it constantly expands its repertoire through international collaborations with different generations of composers, electronic musicians, and performers.
For Musica in Prossimità, the ensemble presents in its Italian premiere the works Ierotelestía by Anna Korsun, in which instrumental timbres and vocal elements intertwine into an organic sonic fabric; London in the Rain, Monadologie XXIX by Bernhard Lang, part of the composer’s Monadologie series, where minimal cells sampled from materials or pre-existing pieces act as generators of the entire musical material, representing abstract machines in a Deleuzian sense; Firn by Tobias Krebs, inviting meditation on ephemerality, time, and the transformation of states; and Volatile by Alexander Bauer.
The Festival concludes with a set by the duo Saint Abdullah & Eomac, born from the collaboration between Iranian-Canadian musician Mohammad Mehrabani-Yeganeh and Irish producer Ian McDonnell. Since 2019, the two have been working between New York and Wicklow (Ireland), combining complementary approaches to music production: the analog experimentation of Saint Abdullah and the digital precision of Eomac merge to create a sonic language characterized by raw textures, massive sampling, and extreme contrasts.
TALK E WORKSHOP
Daniele Boeke will guide children aged 6 to 10 in exploring the importance of intentionality in the transition from sound to music, fostering active listening, creativity, and musical awareness through the workshop Il silenzio e l'emergere del suono, held at the A. Corelli Institute in Pinerolo.
The music institute will also host a talk between composer lin korobkova and the performers of the concert dedicated to their music, as well as an in-depth session by airborne extended on extended techniques for some of the ensemble’s instruments, such as the harp, Paetzold/recorder, and the more familiar flute, with particular attention to different types of notation and the repertoire.
Composer Christina Kubisch will lead a workshop focused on her musical production, aimed at the students of the Turin Conservatory in collaboration with SMET (Electronic Music School of the Turin Conservatory). The training project concludes with the involvement of some SMET students in the realization of the acousmatic concert under the guidance of sound engineer Carlo Laurenzi.
