Anna Piroli

Born in Cremona, Italy – a city she remains deeply connected to – soprano Anna Piroli discovered her passion for music at an early age. Renowned for the versatility of her voice and her boundless artistic curiosity, she explores a repertoire spanning from medieval chant to the contemporary avant-garde. Her work places particular emphasis on historically informed performance of Renaissance and Baroque music, while maintaining a keen interest in the sound worlds of the late twentieth century.

A decisive turning point in her career came in 2021 with her encounter with Jordi Savall, which led to regular collaborations with Hespèrion XXI and La Capella Nacional de Catalunya. This experience allowed her to strengthen her role as an ensemble soloist within the early music scene and, at the same time, to engage with extra-European musical traditions, developing a vision of performance as a space for intercultural dialogue.

Piroli has premiered numerous contemporary works at institutions such as La Biennale di Venezia, IRCAM in Paris, the National Opera of Kyiv, Prague Opera, Opéra de Dijon, the Ghent Festival, and Festival La Via Lattea, among others.

Over the years, she has received numerous awards in international competitions: winner of the first Michiko Hirayama Scholarship from the Fondazione Scelsi (2016), First Prize at the San Colombano Sacred Music Competition in Piacenza (2022), the Premio Fatima Terzo in Vicenza (2023), and finalist at the European Baroque Prize in Sacile the same year.

Together with Erika Sofia Sollo she will perform tape my head and mike my brain, stick that needle in my vain for two voices and turntables where lin korobkova made a reflection about technological mediators of communication that produce spatial mutations – spaces where two or more places are brought together into a single fold. Such a hybrid, despite the initial impression of expansion, actually shifts the user into a non-place, a vacuum. We believe ourselves to be speaking with one another, yet the only thing which is truly being spoken – the only utterance that indeed takes place – is the communication channel itself. What begins as a dialogue with or through technology gradually [or prematurely] reconfigures itself into its monologue.
