Erika Sofia Sollo

Erika Sofia Sollo is a singer, improviser, and performer from Turin, active in improvised, experimental, and electroacoustic music. Her work focuses on exploring the human voice and free improvisation, using extended techniques and electronic effects.

After a period devoted to contemporary jazz, during which she performed with various ensembles in Italy and abroad, since 2012 she has turned her attention to experimentation and free improvisation. Together with other musicians, she co-founded the improvisation collective Green Brötz Turin, which gave her the opportunity to perform with some of the most prominent figures in the Italian and international experimental scene. Several extended stays in Berlin also proved pivotal, giving her the opportunity to collaborate with leading artists. She has performed with musicians such as Gino Robair, Martin Mayes, Achille Succi, Eyvind Kang, Jessika Kenney, Patrizia Oliva, Stefano Giust, Tristan Honsinger, Francesco Cusa, Luca Pissavini, Gianni Lenoci, Gianni Mimmo, Walter Prati, Benedict Taylor, Viv Corringham, Berlin Soundpainting Orchestra and many others.

She has also participated in numerous interdisciplinary projects with artists across theater, dance, and visual arts. In 2017, together with Stefano Risso and Sabrina Oggero Viale, she founded the ensemble Lapsus Lumine, which comprises a project centered on the American composer Moondog (featuring Ernst Reijseger and Jim Black) as well as a repertoire inspired by literary and puzzle games, performed in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Vincenzo Vasi.

Together with Anna Piroli she will perform tape my head and mike my brain, stick that needle in my vain for two voices and turntables where lin korobkova made a reflection about technological mediators of communication that produce spatial mutations – spaces where two or more places are brought together into a single fold. Such a hybrid, despite the initial impression of expansion, actually shifts the user into a non-place, a vacuum. We believe ourselves to be speaking with one another, yet the only thing which is truly being spoken – the only utterance that indeed takes place – is the communication channel itself. What begins as a dialogue with or through technology gradually [or prematurely] reconfigures itself into its monologue.
