Quartetto Maurice
Quartetto Maurice – formed by Georgia Privitera and Laura Bertolino (violins), Francesco Vernero (viola), and Aline Privitera (cello) – is an ensemble devoted to exploring contemporary music of the 20th and 21st centuries, collaborating with some of the most significant figures on today’s scene. Active for over twenty years, the quartet investigates new expressive possibilities, such as the interaction between string quartet and electronics (4+1), the creation of new instruments and digital devices, the integration of extramusical elements into sound works, and cross-disciplinary projects involving dance and the performing arts.
In 2019, the group released an album on Stradivarius Records entirely dedicated to the string quartet and electronics, featuring works by Fausto Romitelli, Mauro Lanza, Andrea Agostini, and Silvia Borzelli, as part of the SIAE – Classici di oggi project. In 2024, marking the centenary of Luigi Nono’s birth, Quartetto Maurice released a limited-edition vinyl on Holidays Records featuring Fragmente – Stille, an Diotima, which received widespread and heartfelt acclaim from Italian critics.
The quartet has performed at major festivals and venues in Italy and around the world, including La Biennale di Venezia, November Music, the Italian Academy at Columbia University (New York), Vancouver New Music, Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music, Festival Milano Musica, Impuls Academy Graz, ManiFeste (Paris), Music Biennale Zagreb and many others.
For Musica in Prossimità they will present an experimental site-specific work which will be developed during lin’s residency in Pinerolo. The creative process will be intimately shaped by the specificity of the location and its historical heritage, reframing established symbolic layers and imprinting them with personalised significance.
