2024

29.11 − 30.11 − 1.12.2024

Pinerolo, Torino

2024 Edition - DAY 1

Opening the 2024 edition, Spiegel Spiele brought together Quartetto Maurice and SoloVoices in a sonic journey built around two world premieres

GAME 15 – Mirror Game by Bernhard Lang and Nodo Infinito by Justė Janulytė. Composed for the occasion, the two works mirror and complement each other through a play of contrasts: on the one hand, Lang’s fragmented and driving pulsation; on the other, Janulytė’s suspended expanses, where sound expands and dissolves until it loses all boundaries.

For YEAH YOU, creation takes shape along the journey

Father and daughter, Gustav Thomas and Elvin Brandhi, transform journeys, encounters and detours into sonic material, weaving together lo-fi electronics, improvised poetry and field recordings. On the stage of Teatro del Lavoro, they created a free-spirited and irreverent performance, moving between distortions, spontaneous vocal flows and deconstructed freestyle, in a continuous dialogue between lived experience and artistic creation.

2024 Edition - DAY 2

The organ as a territory for research, beyond convention

For Musica in Prossimità, Giulio Tosti performed Compositions 1960 by La Monte Young on the organ of the Chiesa della Madonna di Fatima. The dialogue between a milestone of experimental music and the organ’s timbral possibilities opened up new perspectives for listening, offering an unprecedented reinterpretation of the musical heritage.

2024 Edition - DAY 2

With HYPER DUO, Gilles Grimaître and Julien Mégroz weave together electronic textures, jazz-rock influences and contemporary composition in a continuous interplay of cross-pollination.

Through music by Alex Paxton, Sarah Nemtsov and Colin Alexander, the Swiss duo presented a new version of Cadavre Exquis in its world premiere, a visual and musical kaleidoscope inspired by the eponymous music video created by Emmanuel Vion-Dury.

2025 Edition - DAY 3

Objects and space merge in the work of French percussionist and composer Alexis Degrenier, active between contemporary music and oral traditions.

With Mouvements fantômes, membres miroirs, he presented a performance that transforms with every rendition, where gesture, listening and rhythm become living material in constant dialogue with the place that hosts it.

2024 EDITION - DAY 3

With Jbal Rrsas, Musica in Prossimità welcomed the sonic universe of producer Deena Abdelwahed, one of the most original voices in the contemporary electronic scene.

Drawing on Arab traditions, the artist created an audiovisual live performance that achieved a rare balance between club culture and experimental research, bringing to Pinerolo a performance that had already been acclaimed at major international festivals, from Rewire Festival to Sónar and MUTEK Montréal.

2024 Edition - WORKSHOP

Le Foreste Elettriche

led by Impero della Luce

Led by the experimental duo of Johann Merrich and eeviacc, the workshop opened up a space for listening dedicated to the sonic presences that silently inhabit the city.

Children and teenagers were invited to immerse themselves in the electromagnetic landscape of the urban environment, entering a dimension normally beyond perception. Through headphones and Ether devices, the pulse of traffic lights, the breathing of street lamps and the vibrating textures of the appliances that surround our everyday lives emerged.

The workshop concluded with an original concert composed from the hums, interferences and impulses generated by the instruments and devices used during the activity, once again revealing the parallel life that runs through the space we inhabit.

L’organo come macchina dei suoni

led by Giulio Tosti

A workshop dedicated to the exploration of the pipe organ beyond its most traditional uses, discovering its workings, timbral possibilities and the role it continues to play in contemporary musical research.

Through practical exercises, improvisation activities and moments of shared listening, the workshop guided participants towards the discovery of the instrument’s mechanisms, its stops and the behaviour of air inside the pipes. Particular attention was given to sounds and characteristics that today find a place in electroacoustic music and experimental practices.

An opportunity to approach the extended techniques of one of the most complex and fascinating instruments in the Western tradition, exploring unconventional approaches and expressive possibilities.

2024 EDITION - WORKSHOP

Litorale

talk with Bernhard Lang and Justė Janulytė
moderated by Quartetto Maurice and SoloVoices

An encounter dedicated to the creative process of contemporary music brought composers and performers into dialogue, offering the audience a close look at the journey that leads from the birth of a musical idea to the creation of a new piece.

Bernhard Lang and Justė Janulytė, among the most authoritative figures on the international scene, recounted the genesis of GAME 15 – Mirror Game and Nodo Infinito, the works commissioned by the Festival and presented in their world premieres.

Together with Quartetto Maurice and SoloVoices, they retraced the stages of musical creation: from the initial idea to the writing of the score, and finally to the moment when the composition comes to life through interpretation and becomes music.
