Il soprano colombiano Johanna Vargas e la pianista spagnola Magdalena Cerezo hanno fondato il duo LAB51 nel 2016. La collaborazione tra le due musiciste affonda le sue radici nei loro studi di Nuova Musica presso l'Università di Musica e Performing Arts di Stoccarda con gli insegnanti Nicolas Hodges e Angelika Luz. LAB51 trae nuova ispirazione costantemente da artisti come Bernhard Lang, Johannes Kreidler, Sarah Maria Sun, Hans Joachim Hespos, Georg Nigl, Helmut Lachenmann, Donatienne Michel-Dansac, Wolfgang Rihm, Gerhard Stäbler, Hans Thomalla, Anika Rutkofsky (Opera di Stoccarda), Christian Dierstein e Hartmut Höll. LAB51 si percepisce come un ensemble processuale e si basa fin dalle origini su tre direttive principali: l'espansione del repertorio contemporaneo per soprano di coloratura e pianoforte, la mediazione della musica spagnola e latinoamericana in Germania e l'integrazione di diverse forme d'arte in formati concertistici innovativi. LAB51 è in continua fase evolutiva e vuole contribuire all'ulteriore sviluppo di una forma completamente nuova di duo canoro, in cui le interpreti devono andare oltre il loro ruolo abituale e impegnarsi in un intenso scambio tra voce, pianoforte, elettronica, danza e lavoro drammaturgico con l’idea di abbattere i confini.

Colombian soprano Johanna Vargas and Spanish pianist Magdalena Cerezo founded the duo LAB51 in 2016. The collaboration between the two musicians has its roots in their studies of New Music at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts with professors Nicolas Hodges and Angelika Luz. LAB51 regularly receives inspiration from renowned artists such as Bernhard Lang, Johannes Kreidler, Sarah Maria Sun, Hans Joachim Hespos, Georg Nigl, Helmut Lachenmann, Donatienne Michel-Dansac, Wolfgang Rihm, Gerhard Stäbler, Hans Thomalla, Anika Rutkofsky (Stuttgart Opera), Christian Dierstein and Hartmut Höll. LAB51 perceives itself as a processual ensemble and is originally based on three main concepts: the expansion of the contemporary repertoire for coloratura soprano and piano, the mediation of Spanish and Latin American music in Germany and the integration of different art forms in innovative concert formats. LAB51 is in a continuous evolutionary phase and wants to contribute to the further development of a completely new form of song duo, in which the performers have to go beyond their usual role and engage in an intensive exchange between voice, piano playing, electronics, dance and dramaturgical work, always according to the motto “crossing borders”.
